Best A4 sub printer
Re: Best A4 sub printer
I have been using an Epson S22 with refillable carts and Rotech inks. Prints are VERY slow but nice and vivid when they print !!
I don't use the printer often enough and each time I have to remove the carts and 'bleed' them so obviously air is getting in somewhere:frown:
Time for a change to gel ink system me thinks.
Called Xpres about Ricoh GX3300 but that's dicontinued and they tell me there are banding issues with the replacement (anyone have problems?) so offered the Epson WP4015DN. Any advise as to which one to go for? Martin @ BMS may offer some advise.
Hope to hear back soon as I have a job for 250 mugs waiting so need to sort this ASAP
cheers al

Re: Best A4 sub printer
For me, Ricoh all the way.
I have a 7000 which is about two years + old now and never failed me. Can switch off, leave for a few weeks while on holiday, come back turn on and press print.
I also have a back up 3300 which has not be turned on for about 6 months now. However I know that if I do switch it on, after a quick head clean it will start printing with superb results. People with the supported epsons will say that the colour reproduction is slightly better. If colour needs to be that accurate it might be worth going for one, but in all honesty, I have never had a problem with skin tones or images in general using my Ricoh(s).
Not sure about the banding issues and it has never been raised here which I would have thought would have happened if there is a problem with the printer. BMS are doing a cashback so they are probably the cheapest right now.

I think your options going the Sawgrass supported A4 route with cartridges instead of a CISS are the Ricoh SG3110DN and the Epson WP4015DN. The Ricoh comes from a long line of supported and mainly reliable printers whereas the Epson is a fairly new model and I believe the first Sawgrass cartridge based Epson. As suggested, speak to Martin @ BMS who I am sure will tell you the pros and cons of each one.

Certain Epson models have been supported for many years & the Ricoh printers are fairly new in the last couple of years to the market. The Ricoh comes from a long line of supported and mainly reliable printers whereas the Epson is a fairly new model and I believe the first Sawgrass cartridge based Epson.

Thanks Ian, so there you go I stand corrected. But as far as current models go those are still your choices.Ian M;58815 wrote:Certain Epson models have been supported for many years & the Ricoh printers are fairly new in the last couple of years to the market.

I second the above I do not use mine everyday and have never had any issues with it and highly recommend the 3300 although this has been superseeded by the 3110Renniwano;58805 wrote:Ricoh 3300 here too.. and love the fact I don't have to use it every day to keep it running without issues..

check on the US' T-Shirt Forums (google for it) - there is a much bigger user base of users there, and a lot of threads documenting the different issues there are on the Ricoh printers. Not that I recall banding issues being mentioned, more Ricoh just ceasing to work/power on at all.

Ianm, what persons have been supported for many years? I know that wide formats have been but was not aware of any desktop machines which is probably what WDR was referring to?
