Re: sublimation slates
Same as Paul, i soak the slate in water, bit of fairy liquid rubbed in with a soft sponge and its gone,
Some of the ones i have done have had small areas that are duller than the rest on occasion but these are a natural product and if you want perfection then you need a perfect surface which slate is not. Adds to the charm i think and all my customers have been very happy bunnies so far:)

Hi
Thanks for all about this great thread and tips. I get my first delivery of slates. Right now I am waiting silicon rubber from BMS and then I can start my tests also. But it is good to learn other experiences.

Re: sublimation slates
Hi all, I am new to the site!
I have been printing slate for a while now and I have also have some of these problems. my paper has never stuck to the slate but I have some areas that are as though there is something like the glue attached to it. Most of the slate will be glossy and then have a couple of dull/matt. I have washed it. but looking at the slate in different light, sometimes you see it and sometimes not. I like things perfect and this spoils it a bit. also sometimes my tape marks are showing. colour still comes through but you can see where I put the tape.
also 1 more question! some of my slates come out glossy and some matt. I do reckon they are all manufactured in the same place in China, so doesnt really matter where we buy it from, maybe its the way I print???
thanks
Hannah

Re: sublimation slates
You didnt tell us whattime and tem, pressure you used.
Matte patches are coating that stuck to the slate. You can get ri of it by washing it with soft clith diped in acetine free polih remove.

Re: sublimation slates
hi folks,
i realize this is an old thread but I thought it would be better to post my question here then start a new one!
can anyone tell me is it possible to achieve good results with slates without using a silicon sheet on top? I've include 3 slates in my latest order, but stupidly forgot to order a sheet of silicone that is big enough, and can't justify postage costs for just a sheet of silicon at the moment
is it possible to do without the silicon, or use some other material (t-shirt/towel perhaps??) ?
any advice much appreciated!

pop in to your local wilkinson or similar and look for flat baking silicone mate. but make sure there is no texture.
i never menage to get descent slate without silicon mate.
