Slate suitable for outdoors

Are the slates available for sublimation suitable for outdoors? If so, what is the largest size that you've found? I've been asked to do a sign to go outside someone's houseboat and wondered what was available.

The slate will survive, it was created outside millions of years ago. The image however might last a week or two - slightly less than the slate :biggrin: .

Maybe some sort of UV protection might help.

They should last quite some time and even longer if not in direct sunlight. I printed onto metal a few years back and left them outside. One was coated in frog juice and the other just as it was. The frog juice coated resulted in the image fading slightly more for some reason. Anyway after 6 months the images were still okay and then someone pinched the metal!

We have some slate which is around 10" diameter I think - like a round slate chopping board. Bought them in for a special order and the customer never came back!

so basically we can easy say that as long there is no scrap collectors in your area, printed slate should last at least 6mc

You could try the UV Protiection spray sold by a few companies (Mega UK comes to mind). This might add a bit more protection especially if it is in direct sunlight.
