Re: Epson stylus 915 help please :)

Hello!

I am completely new to all this and am a bit confused about the printers and inks to use....

At the moment I just want to experiment and make sure that the dye sublimation process will work for my product. I was hoping to use an existing printer that I have had for a few years (epson stylus photo 915). As I initially just want to complete a test run I don't really want to invest in a ciss system yet. So, really my question is do epson sell dye sublimation inks?! If they don't what is the best alternative. I'm not too fussed about the smaller cartridges being a waste of money as like I said previously just want to do a test run.

I'm hoping to print onto ceramic jars, at present I have been using waterslide decals but this seems like a much easier process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

You can use an older printer, but flushing the old inks out can be faffy/messy/a pain, so in a way you would be better off with a new machine, and a newer one would likely be better quality anyways.
In terms of CISS, don't worry about that - they can be quite temperamental, and refill cartridges are a much better option, although having to refill them can be faffy/messy/a pain!

Printing onto ceramic jars is fine, as long as you can find ones available that you like the shape/style of that can be used for sublimation - there isn't a huge range, as to be able to sublimation print onto something it needs a special (polymer based) coating - you can't just print onto any jar you like unfortunately.

As Paul already, said though, please read through the What Printer thread, and then come back here wit any further questions that you may have.
