Re: Mug problems
Hi Tryweryn
The problem with your mugs is probably not the same as this. I have purchased the BMS Euro mugs and they do not have the taper at the bottom.
I would suggest you try warming the bottom of the mug first as this should resolve your particular problem. Have a search on the forum as this has been covered before and is more likely to be either a blanket problem or a problem because the press is cheap (no offence on that as I do not know your kit).

Re: Mug problems
It is a shame, as that was the only problem I ever had with BMS RN mugs in 3 years of using them. I'd bought 4 boxes and they were all the same. I'm now using Listawood mugs which don't have the tapering problem at the bottom. The BMS mugs didn't go to waste though, I just ended up using them for mugs with logos on and have just finished the last one. If I have a problem with the Listawood mugs then I'll give BMS another go.
Re: Mug problems
As mentioned before, I have also had an issue with one box of BMS euro mugs.. never had the problem before but it was a definite issue with the base of the mugs being a lot wider than the rest of the mug.. to the point the paper wouldn't wrap round the mugs straight.. not something I have come across before with them.. and it's not the first box I have had from them either..
Behind every great man.. is a surprised mother in law..

socialgiraffe I am looking into the blanket theory but the BMS Euro mugs do taper at the bottom slightly. My mug press is the corel4?

Re: Mug problems
Hi Tryweryn
I can see the taper but that should not be too much of a problem. Here is what I would do...
Firstly tighten up your press. You should be able to look at the wrapped mug "pinching" round the bottom of the mug. Be careful not to over tighten as this can damage the blanket.
If I am required to print top to bottom of the mug I always pre warm the bottom (always good to have a warm bottom!). There are many ways you can do this and a quick search will bring up loads of suggestions. However I use a Teriyaki grill (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-El ... yaki+grill).
I have a 5 at a time press and the grill fits 10 mugs perfectly. This means I preheat wrapped mugs on the grill and put in the press. As soon as the pre heated ones have gone in the press I put another 5 mugs on the grill and keep rotating through the print run (I hope I have explained that correctly!).
If you do not have a grill you can try simply warming it on a cooker to see if that cures the problem. As a very rough general rule I have found that I can touch the bottom of the mug but only quickly as it is too hot. I suppose very similar in temperature to a recently poured cup of tea in a mug.
Sorry if the above is a bit of an explanation mess, English has never been my strong point

Re: Mug problems
It will if you heat them too much. Unfortunately its a trial and error sort of thing which I appreciate means wasting a few mugs.
I will say that I made an impulse purchase at Fespa of a Genie mug press from Listawood. Using their mugs in this machine does not require me to heat the bottom and it produces perfect prints every time, top to bottom

I can vouch for the Genie.. after borrowing Simon's and ending up purchasing one myself.. and using them with the Listawood mugs

Re: Mug problems
If you are only doing a couple of mugs, a hairdryer is a very quick way to heat the bottoms.
