hi all,

having an issue this morning with a case of smug mugs. nearly every one I take from the case has dirt around the rims. I'm talking black lines/marks under the coating. Our last case had similar issues, but in smaller numbers. Am I being too fussy? I personally wouldn't buy a mug that had black marks/dirt on the rim!

Perfectly acceptable to require eachl and every mug to be 'fit for purpose'. I only use BMS mugs and have never had a problem with them. If I was in your position I would be asking for replacement mugs of 'merchantable' quality or a refund and go elsewhere.

Thats exactly what I've done Roger. A new case is going to be shipped to me tomorrow, and be hand checked by the supplier before sending.

I normally get the European mugs from BMS, but these are Smug Mugs which BMS don't supply. We used to get the espresso mugs from BMS, but they haven't had stock in a long time, so had to find an alternative.

We also got a case similar to the European from BMS as they were out of stock last week, and there were 7 breakages in the case. Never had a single breakage from BMS yet (touch wood!!) in the year we've been doing this, so I'll certainly be going back to BMS now that they have stock again!

I had this with another supplier a while back and they were replaced.. and that's how it should be..

You wouldn't go to a supermarket and buy a loaf of bread to find half the slices were unusable.. so why should this be any different.

They don't seem to have a problem replacing them which is good to see, I just hope they haven't had a whole batch that is bad, as I have an order to get out!!

These are the sort of issues I've been finding, just so people can be aware to look out for it themselves. Am I being too fussy?

It seems like the supplier may have gotten a dodgy batch, so they are going to take it up with their manufacturers, and I will receive a new case tomorrow, which has been hand checked, so happy enough with how it's been handled for now!

There's no way I would use those - would YOU buy one like that? I wouldn't.

Your not being too fussy at all in my opinion.

I certainly wouldn't Nik! Anyway, hopefully it gets sorted, and I can't exactly blame the supplier as it's clearly a problem coming from the factory. Just wanted to make people aware.

I think the more that small companies like us let our suppliers know about problems, the better for us all!

Good to hear! Yes the espresso have been a long while coming back, but they are on their way for 2014 :)

Great to hear! Would also be great to be able to get RN coated smug mugs from yourselves...they really are a nice little shape and size!
