It's a program on BBC 2 collect debts, I saw the thread about Button Moon mugs,( and here's the follow up) he used their images on mugs with out permission, and the fine came to roughly 8 thousands pounds some of that was bailiffs cost, the chap that did the mugs said its been 30 years since button moons images was used and it would have been probably only paid 100 in royalty's if he asked, said the fine was a bit over the top, plus what was the fuss about it had been thirty years. He paid up full by credit card.but just had a look at his website and I can only say his royalty's fee must be high.

If you want to license images from BBC, or any other big company, then there's a trade show called "Brand Licensing Europe" held at Olympia in October every year specially for discussing license agreements of this type.

they gave him a fair few chances to just take it down and stop doing it , but he just wouldn't stop doing it so ended up paying the price really.
is there a website or anything where people put up licences that are for sale etc , thanks for that link pisquee

You can license imagery from sites like Shutterstock, but for licensing an image for printing to merchandise which is for sale, where the main selling point of the product is the image, then some sites won't let you license at all, or you have to pay for an "extended" license. Normal licenses can be relative pennies, whereas extended can cost between £30-£60 each, which is fine if you know you have a market where you can sell your products enough to turn a profit.

Don't forget www.openclipart.org all these images are Commercial free and are able to be used for virtually anything.

I thought clipart died with Word 97 but nowadays you can use sites like fiver to get some custom art work made
