Hi all

After a day at the trade only show i am temted by a oki printer so i can print white on coloured mugs and also be able to print t shirts, diaries and notebook covers.

Question is - are the oki printers as good as the boys on the magic touch stand would have me believe?
The mug blanks from tmt seemed a bit dear - anyone able to point me towards another supplier of compatible mugs???

At 2k for the printer and 750 or so for a press plus vat - i rather need to know that its not just sales man hype!!! - no offence meant to tmt here - i would be asking the same question regardless of supplier!

I believe they were probably giving costs on laser mugs as that gives the print more durability. You can use 40p mugs but they will struggle in the dishwasher more. It's work in progress for mugs in my opinion but the system is good for the various other substrates. If you are into personalisation of various goods then I am sure it would be a good investment.

I am still using an Oki C5700 every day that I got from TMT over 6 years ago! - they just work, every 10000 prints you do need an expensive (ish) new fuser or similar, but otherwise, no complaints at all.
The white system is very useful, but I cannot comment on the washability of laser mugs using cpm white, it is definitely NOT as good as decent sub thou'
does give you unique products thou, am happy with mine. (paid for itself in less than a year)

Just bought the C5800 that I mentioned earlier - quick text print and everything looks A-OK. Time will tell whether I got a bargain or not as I haven't had time to put any transfer paper through it yet.

How does the print compare on garments (ie T shirts etc)? Is it as durable as vinyl and or sublimation?

no idea about durability but the sample t shirts on the TMT stand were not as good as polyester sub Ts but much better than the vinyl Ts I have seen. - In what way I hear you cry. Dye Sub gets right into the fabric and looks as though it is (and actually is) colour that is part of the fabric of the cloth and not something plastic sitting on the top surface. Vinyl is like having a crisp bag stuck to the surface of the cloth and the OKI output was in the middle.

I should have clarified that a little more I didn't mean vinyl transfers , have never used them apart from a quick job needed on a one off full colour charity T shirted needed once about 15 years ago, lol. I meant as opposed to flex/flock. I have been using both flex, flock and sublimation for many years now and have often looked at the alternatives, but nothing has really stood up for me. It did look interesting, but I will only use something that stands up to continuous washing and wearing.
