Re: ICC for Ricoh SG7100DN with no SUBLIJET
Hi there
This is my first post here after i investigated for few hours in internet and no answer yet...
Maybe this is "a you get what you pay for" case; i explain it:
Just bought a RICOH AFICIO SG7100DN printer, wowww it looks great! But maybe my mistake has been that i bought this ink from Chinaand maybe its the best ink on earth, who knows! But now i cannot get an official icc profile ( the chinese seller says they dont have it )like the one you get when you buy a Sublijet pack.
So i only have the 5 profiles that the RICOH driver includes, that i have been told they are for normal paper.
My question is; what can i do with the icc? Can i try to buy it? Can i customize a new one by myself ( something ive never did before! ) ? Im really confused with this issue and i dont wanna spend another 150€ in a CMYK package again...
Thanks a lot for reading me, hope you guys can help me.
Regards from Spain!
PS. Im using a MAC with OS X 10.5.8

You need to get a custom ICC created so you computer knows what to tell the printer to mix the inks correctly to get the correct colours.
This service is available in UK, but I don't know about Spain. If you don't mind waiting to post some printed pages to UK, then you can use Paul from this forum to get your profiles.
You will need Photoshop (or Corel) to make proper use of the profile.
Expect to pay £25 for the custom profile.

Thanks for your quick response pisquee.
So you mean i cannot use an "official" icc profile with an "unofficial" ink?
In that case i dont care paying for a custom icc as long as i can modify it depending of what i need for each product i want to sublimate..
I will wait for other responses to see if theres another point of view and if this is the only way i will talk to Paul
Thanks a lot Pisquee!

good evening from sunny England!
first, thanks for recommendation Tim!
Tim is right. you need to let printer know how to mix inks to give correct colours. Each ink and printer will act different so if you decide to go for custom icc make sure you will always use same brand of the ink. as different ink mean new icc profile.

The only official ink in a Ricoh printer is made by Ricoh. Sawgrass ink is unofficial.kasoaparte;85504 wrote:Thanks for your quick response pisquee.

Using Sawgrass' ICC profile with a different company's ink makes no sense, as the ICC compensates for colour, but ink from a different company will be different colours, so the wrong ICC will cause you just as many problems as not having one.
We make different ICCs for different products we print to, but most people get away with using one for all. Start with getting one from Paul, and then go from there.
you can always buy your own kit for making ICCs, and this will work out cheaper if you want to make lots of them!

Hi Oaten
Firstly, have you done a nozzle check?
Second, ensure your image is set for CMYK (just in case this is making a difference).
Treble check that you have installed the icc profile and made all the changes required (Sawgrass website will be able to show you that part).
Make sure that you are printing on the correct side of the dye sub paper (should not make a difference but worth checking).
If you do all the above then post your results it may help, I am not the best when it comes to this sort of thing and there are other members here that know a heck of a lot more.

Re: ICC for Ricoh SG7100DN with no SUBLIJET
Hi Socialgiraffe,
I done one early and the standard stepping lines but all connected etc.
I had my image in CMYK but after speaking to Sawgrass they told me its better to have ot set to RGB which I thought was odd!
I uninstalled and reinstalled the ICC profile and made sure the settings were all correct.
Im also printing the the white side of the paper.
I will change it back to CMYK as since ive reinstalled the profiles ive not printed using CMYK.
Cheers for the tips I will post me results tomorrow

The printer driver will expect an RGB output, so your workspace should be set to RGB, ideally Adobe 1998 RGB.
Are you using Sawgrass inks? if you are then their ICC profile should get you a lot closer to what you are getting (assuming your monitor isn't crazy!)
Is the print beside the monitor in the picture still on the transfer paper or transferred onto something? The colour will change once transferred, although not as much to turn pink into orange!
What graphics software are you using - can you post screen shots of its colour management settings?
