Re: re:sublimation pic peeling off
John G what I thought was a good site here in Oz have since found a better one that says micro wave and dishwasher safe ... will get some more ... dont want to even give a mug away that will peel
Re: re:sublimation pic peeling off
ok I have decide to continue sub these cups for practise and even if I sell them cheaper with a hand wash only/ no dishwasher safe ....... but new mug delivered tomorrow morning
Re: re:sublimation pic peeling off
The cheaper non-dishwasher safe mugs still have a market, though need to be sold in a way so the customer knows what they are buying. For the cheap giveaway/throwaway promo mug they are good.

Re: re:sublimation pic peeling off
Hi lezzels,
I'm in Australia and initially started doing mugs by accident. I had a cow of a time getting images consistent. Bought a cheaper press and that helped, but the biggest problem I had was caused by ebay mugs.
A failure rate of around 20 to 30 mugs per carton of 48! The failures were everything from pitting and pinholing in the coating and the mug surface, to bits of stick, leaf, sand, dirt and twigs in the coating, especially around the bottom where they must have been standing in some Chinese back yard when the sub coating was being sprayed on.
Recently I got cartons of mugs from GJS. Where I am, shipping is horribly expensive and GJS are not known for being cheap. The mugs are all Made In China, so I wondered. But the difference is amazing.
Every mug was whiter. Every mug came out with sharper, clear edges around the pictures. No fading to violet at the edges, something I always blamed on my dialing in of pressure or on the heat element. And the photos themselves are crisp, clean and beautiful.
Also the mugs are thinner, and feel more like porcelain than like a thick lump of clay. Heaven knows what results I would get if I could get some of the mugs people on this forum have access to and talk about so fondly.
Anyway, GJS Machinery is closer to you than they are to me, and shipping might be a lot better. Their mugs ended up costing about 30% more than the ebay ones by the time I added freight. But I actually ended up being able to use ALL of them.
Another option for you might be Nova Sublimation. I notice their mugs are about 25% cheaper than Gary's, but I like the service I've had from GJS with paper and other stuff.
I have no financial interest in GJS or Nova, and this is not an advertisement. It is simply that we Aussies don't have access to the companies that advertise on and support this site.
I found and replied to this post because I was going to write one about my experience with ebay vs commercial products.
Recently my shirt supplier stopped importing polyester shirts into the country. So I checked and found the only decent alternative is $7 or $8 per shirt depending which of the two in Aus I choose. I had been paying $4 for perfectly fitting breathable poly suitable for the tropics.
So I found some, $5 including freight on - you guessed it - ebay. I ordered some XL shirts for a quick job.
When they arrived, the XL shirts had a neck size that would fit a skinny 14yo girl.
So again, wasted money and now going to check out the two major suppliers. And again, GJS or Nova are about the only options here.

Re: re:sublimation pic peeling off
Thanks mate ... yeah I did get a box from a picture perfect and the mugs are so much better but I will try GJS for sure .....Im finally using a mug have been for 3 weeks and it been in the dishwasher lots and still good ... picture perfect also gave me good service but further away for you re shipping..... but it good to know and yes us Aussie dont have much options for sub blanks.
Re: re:sublimation pic peeling off
Hi lezzels, Picture Perfect is the supplier I couldn't remember. It is worth checking the prices at GJS, Picture Perfect and Nova. One of them the carton price sounds great until you see you are comparing 36 mugs with 48 mugs! Also there's a huge freight cost where I am, but for you it might be ok. You're closer to Brissy and Sydney. I'm up in the Whitsunday area.
I don't know if you tried ebay mugs, but wow! What a waste. I took a hammer to maybe 60 mugs that just hadn;t printed properly. I was blaming myself, because I don;t use Windows or Mac, and often print direct from my Android tablet, so no ICC profiles. But everything except mugs was coming out just as I wanted it.
So I blamed my settings on the press etc. Swapping to a better quality mug has meant every print came out sharp and clear. And so far not a single muh with a pinhole through the coating, no sand and crap on the bottom and no spots where the coating just didn;t cover it. No more ebay mugs for me.
GJS also have a really good quality sub paper. $30 for 100 sheets. Picture Perfect and Nova I believe also do the same but I haven;t looked at their prices. So 30 cents a sheet, 3 mugs a sheet, 10 cents a mug for paper. It works out ok. Even with the quality mugs, materials cost under $3.50 including ink. Once you have graphics sorted, a single press does around 6 mugs an hour, so you can work out an acceptable hourly rate to charge for each mug.
I'm far from an expert, but reasonably local and went through a lot of the start up hassles. Feel free to PM me. I can;t teach you stuff thet Paul and pisquee and others here can, but it might be useful to have a local to toss ideas around with.
