Going off my trolley... Support for Adkins Maxi.

As the thread header states, "can't find the right section, post it here" so I am ever so sorry if this is the wrong place to post. However, now I have your attention...

I'm looking for a heavy duty table trolley with lockable wheels to use my Adkins Maxi on. It has to be heavy duty enough to take the press and the weight of me pushing on the handle to close it. It also has to be around 28 to 30 inches high in order to make operating the press comfortable. All the industrial or warehouse type trolley's are way too high or just too big overall. Doe's anyone use such a thing or know where I can get one?

George Knight make one for their presses, not cheap though see here http://www.rasmart.co.uk/products-page/ ... sal-stand/ you will probably have to add your own fixings to lock the press to the table.

Thanks for the info and link but I think the George Knight stand is for clam presses and I need to mount a swing press. It has to have a wide enough base to support the press when it's open and pushed to the side.

Looking at something along the Geo Knight one, if i gave measurements etc to a welder and asked him to make me one I would expect to pay no more than £100 cash. Then powder coating something like that is only going to cost another £50 if you are not fussed on the colour.

With the materials and time even making this at £100 would be 'tight' to say the least - Steel is expensive these days. not to mention the consumables (Rods, and power).

It takes a while to get the geometry right too.

Hi Nige

If you don't want to spend mega bucks and know a tame welder, get yourself down to your local household waste recycling center. There is almost always a couple of old computer tables there - the ones with Z shaped steel legs. Remove the top and get your tame welder to put a couple of bars (some one inch square box tube would do) across the top and bottom to make it the width you want. Its possible that the table has cross bars but they are usually screwed in place so the table can be flat packed. You WILL need to weld the cross pieces in place. Cut down the old top to fit or get a piece of 18/20/25mm mdf to suit. Cut another piece to fit over the bottom of the Z and cross rails as a lower shelf. The tricky bit is getting hold of half decent locking industrial castors which are expensive to buy especially with locking wheels and not something you get a lot of at the tip.
