Re: Any additional software required

Post by Bob @ Prestige »

Hi guys and galls

I currently have a JV3 1370MM Mimaki wide format printer and a matching plotter I use for printed and vinyl graphics, I create all my artwork in Corel Draw and anything to be printed is exported as an eps file and then printed using onyx postershop on the mimaki.

What I want to know is that do you guys use a particular software package for mug printing?

If so does it have built in templates to allow you to size your images, artwork to correct size prior to printing.

Thanks in advance

We use Photoshop for everything from scanning designs in, tweaking and fixing. And then laying out the pages and printing.
We're use Epson 9600 and 7600 printers, so get 12 mug transfers across the 44" page.
We use a tape measure to work out the size the transfers need to be for particular items, or for more complex shapes we scan them in - this has become the preferred method for making templates from garment patterns especially.

If you don't want to spend a lot of dosh on software, Photoshop Elements will do pretty much everything you need and has the bonis of running in either beginners or advanced mode. As far as templates for mugs go - put a mug into your press and mark where the blanket ends. Remove mug and mark about 5mm inside of previous mark, measure mug top to bottom - you now have the mugs printable dimensions

I think corel will be plenty enough for your needs. You may only need some raster graphic program but as you already use Corel, I know there is also raster graphic softwer in corel package.
PaintShop Pro.
