Coatings for glass
Re: Coatings for glass
I wish to print with dye sub onto glass pebbles, can the pebbles be ...treated with a coating to accept the ink, I have heard some type of car lacquer can be used, any help and I would be grateful
Re: Coatings for glass
you need a polyester/polymer based coating which can survive being heated to 200 degrees to be printed into. somepowder coatings are suitable, and there was talk on t-shirt forums of some car paints also working.
Re: Coatings for glass
I buy sublimation coatings from Dyepress and have them shipped to Australia. Shipping has always been pretty reasonable. At AUD$80 including freight I could coat around 250 glasses. Having said that, wouldn;t it be easier to just buy sublimation glass pebbles ready to press? Ok, sorry - sick sense of humour.
I've never tried to coat glass, but the PolyGloss can be applied to lots of unusual items. They have a matte coating for non glossy items also. So AUD$80 landed will coat the equivalent of about 60 A4 pages of whatever you brush or spray it onto.
You could probably sublimate an entire pebble garden for that, so I can see where the cost is an issue for small quantities. If you really want to do coat pebbles, I wonder if there is a supplier of a similar coating product in your country?
Just don't try sublimating a guitar in a clamshell press!
