which device is best for moniter calibration

i had the problem with colour so have decided to get a calibration device, but there is a few to choose from. being on ebay and missed out on a datacolor spyder 4, and color munki but looking on ebay their is other devices that say they do the same and price ranges, but are they as good, so far ive seen, maybe others.

What I miss on your list is my Spyder4Pro. 50£ is quite too cheap and you won't get a calibrator with ambient light sensor, which is necessary to compensate the room light and get the contrast on your screen as it get's on your prints.

Spyder4Pro is available for around 115£ wich is the cheapest you can get with ambient light sensor.

Please ignore my ignorance but why would you like to calibrate your monitor? Is it strictly for sublimation?

Not unless your printer is also calibrated. Although most ICC files are doing this, we all know some of them aren't the most accurate!

If you are trying to calibrate a laptop monitor, it is a waste of time. There is too much colour shift when viewed at different angles. Only professional graphics monitors are worth doing.

LOL..... wouldn't be any point calibrating your monitor if you werent also making and ICC for your printers (a different ICC for each paper/ink/substrate combination if you are really anal).

this is exactly why i asked! If your icc is generic then no matter what your screen shows it will print its own way. this is what exactly happening with sublimation. color gamut is so low that LOADS of colors are printed "close enough" (perceptual mode in photoshop).

So as long as you have proper profiling device that allow you to calibrate your display AND printer then you can have a fun with it.
But calibrating display just for use with "out of the box profile" has no much sense...

...And this days monitors are "good enough" for most of work any way...

As long as you not a professional photographer who works with RAW files I think purchasing display calibrator is wasting of money that could be invested in inks or blanks :rolleyes:

Unless you spending money on a system which includes the kit for printer profiling, you're kinda wasting your money on a system just for monitors, not a huge point in having one without the other.
