Hi, does anyone have Adkins Beta Maxi Multiplex? I believe this is sold as having a lower platen.
I spoke to to someone at Xpres today to ask about this model. If I understood him correctly, he said this model comes with an extra piece under the bottom platen that can be removed to give extra pressing room. He said Adkins made this model for people who want to press heavy and thicker clothing items. When I mentioned that I wanted to possibly press plaques etc he said that might be a problem with this model due to not being able to achieve the pressure if the thickness of the item being pressed was less than an inch. BTW this is if the platen has been lowered by removing the extra piece.
He said that I would be better buying the standard model and buying the deep Impact Platen.
I suppose im looking for clarification from some one that has this model as to the difference between the Standard model and the Multiplex.
One other thing, that I'm not sure whether it is correct to ask, but here goes. I am posturing a little over who buy my press from. It will be either Xpres or The Magic Touch. As I am very very new to this these are companies I had never heard of till recently. I want to be sure of the best backup after I make the purchase.
Thank you in advance for your advice and help

Re: Adkins Beta Maxi Multiplex ?
Yes, thicker items are a problem. I made a lower platen for mine but it isn't ideal. Adkins supply a replacement platen but it won't be cheap. I use a pressmech primarily which can press much thicker items.
Re: Adkins Beta Maxi Multiplex ?
Thanks Justin, yes it £150 for the Deep impact platen. I was more wondering if anyone had the Multipex version. As the description on both websites does not tell you very much. The PressMech also look interesting but are just out of my price range if I want to have anything left for the supplies. My thinking is with the Adkins I would still have a very good heat press.

Well total change, after being 100% sure I was going for a Adkins swing away I changed my mind. After measuring the space I had I realised I just did not have the room for the Swing Away. So I have gone for the Stalhs Auto Clam 40x40. I know everyone advised the Swing Away, but I am sure this will be fine for me and what a I want to use it for.
Anyways hopefully I will get delivery on Monday plus tranfer papers and vinyls etc. Plus my first order of kiddy T-Shirts should be arriving too. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Re: Adkins Beta Maxi Multiplex ?
The Stahls are also very good presses. Fully appreciate what your'e saying about space, the swing aways really do take up a huge amount of room. Just make sure your new press has a good heavy level of pressure as some transfer papers will need this.
Re: Adkins Beta Maxi Multiplex ?
Thanks Justin, from what I have read and videos watched the pressure on this model goes from light, medium to Heavy firm pressure. It is supposed to be able to cope with all today's modern transfers. Fingers crossed anyways.
