I bought a 2nd hand Ricoh SG34110DN a few months back. This has some ink left in the tubes. I want to put new ink in this and start using it but I'm not sure if the ink will be out of date and whether I should remove the ink before installing new cartridges. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
Keith

Re: Ricoh SG3110DN
Was it supplied with subli cartdridges ?. If so I would use this ink to clear the heads if necessary. If you can achieve a perfect head test then swap for new carts and do multiple flushes using the front panel control. A few test prints will show if you have bad colours which would mean more flushes. Eventually the stored ink will be replaced.
My first 3110 was second hand and a nightmare, personally I would cut my losses and buy new with sawgrass warranty etc. Appreciate this may not be possible but I would want to know the printer was perfect before buying second hand.

Hi wayupnorth, thanks for the reply. The printer came without carts. The seller removed them when they upgraded to A3 Ricoh.

Ok that is better but no way of telling what happens when you add new carts. Possible the cart end of the ink lines may have dried but you may be lucky. The lines take a substantial amount of ink during charging so if they are still full and it prints ok you have saved some money. If you add carts and have trouble clearing the lines (getting a good nozzle print) then I would probably get cleaning carts (assuming you can) and clear out the old ink. Putting the new carts back in after this process will use ink to prime but no different to the routine for a new printer so loss really. Still leaves a lot of ink for several hundred prints. Worst case is the printer not working correctly after all this but hopefully all will be well. Seller really should have left the carts in and charged you for the remaining ink.
