SG are sending out a full set of carts. They want me to provide PRN's during a flush of each individual channel.

They're saying my 'nozzles are dropping'

AND what are they going to do about it ? How long do they warranty the head for ?

Warranty with SG is for a year. So far they've intimated at getting an engineer out but I guess we have to go through all these long winded procedures first. My concern is that, whilst I get this issue sorted, be it new head etc. what happens if it fails just after the 12 months? You're on your own unless SG offer an extended warranty. Would they warranty the new head I wonder?

If its was an epson ink and warranty then theyd only give 3 months on the new head. After warranty its tough although they do a fix price fix scheme its still circa £1200 for a new head with their subsidised fix.

Justin i can tell you that after 12months you are most definatly on your own as for an engineer im watching this one with interest my machine as i say failed after 15 months (3 months out of warranty) after SG got me to do 2 power flushes with no improvement they basically said heads are fecked !! i asked if they could suggest an engineer and all i got was "dunno mate " i didnt ask them to pay it or anything like that i just wanted it fixed .So unless they have their own engineers that they send out id be interested to see how they get round this . As for the heads dropping id be willing to place a bet on the heads being blown (and im not a gambling man) hate to be doom n gloom but i think thats what you will find

Unfortunatly they arnt epson inks so epson wont touch it for any money

a new head is £1100 + Vat fitting is approx 4 hours of engineers time std price is £75 / hr plus travelling time. + Vat

Update.....Sawgrass have sent me a full set of inks. I've been instructed to print PRN files which are basically solid colour. They've told me to print 8 for every channel. Each print takes around 1/2 hour......8 x 1/2 hr=4 hrs, 8 x 4hrs = 32 hours of constant printing! I've checked with them twice that this is correct and they insist it is. Looking for some advice here. In all my years working with printers, several years with large format, talking to friends in the know, none of us can work out how on earth this is helping anything. Supposedly the idea behind printing these blocks is to clear the nozzles without using cleaning routines. Yes, this used to work on smaller Epsons, printing A4 blocks but once they're clear surely that's it? Why print sooooo much? We're looking at 70m+ of paper!

Has anyone ever been directed to do this or can shine any light on this process for me please? Really got me bamboozled!

That sounds like an interesting solution alright! I'd certainly be looking at getting the cheapest paper you can find, rather then wasting 70m of sublimation paper. I can see the theory behind it, but that does seem like an awful lot of printing, but then if they've provided enough ink to do this, I'd just go with it.

They're sending paper but in the meantime I'll need to get a roll of 'el cheapo' paper from somewhere so I can crack on with the procedure!

Hopefully they send you sublimation paper, and you can crack on and do the procedure with the cheaper paper, and end up with an extra roll of sublimation paper!
