Yes or No, and why?

Do you go thru all the steps of re-sampling of a photo to be sublimated to something small such as key- chains, coasters, etc. I'm using Corel Draw X3, Ricoh 3110dn I'm just curious, my prints have been coming out great just converting to a bitmap and changing the dpi to 300. I know if it's not broke, don't fix it, but, always looking to make it better if possible. I forgot to say that most of my photos are coming from an iphone, and are usually 72dpi when I import into Corel. I am not taking them directly from the iphone.

Remember that the dpi is relative to the overall size/dimensions of the image...
So it isn't just a case of saying that the dpi of the original artwork is only 72, if the overall size of it is 2 metres wide for instance, and you want to reduce it to a size which is 2cm wide, with a dpi of 300.

Depending on what we're scanning for, we either use a dpi of 300, 600, or 1200 - 1200 being if we're planning on increasing the actual size of the image substantially.
For the final artwork at the size of the resulting print, we'll have 300dpi. We always try and start with a bigger dpi (or size) than the final print, rather than the other way round. For each new edit/size for different products we then go back to the original high resolution scan and work from there.

Corel will import photos at 72dpi but can be very big depending on original resolution. Reduce the photo to a mug size and the resolution will go up, you can see what it is from the read out on the bottom status bar. Generally get you photos at the highest resolution as down sampling is fine, upsampling loses quality even if you are using something like Photozoom
