Question for you @Earl Smith,
In every video I watched on YT I can see that people embroider bit of a patch, cut it out and THEN do the last satin stitch. Why is this?
Can you not do full patch at once and then cut it out? Hope this make sense for you

Hi Paul. I embroider the whole patch then cut out, carefully. If you cut out then do the border , positioning could easily be out . I also have a Merrow machine, so when doing big orders I cut out without the border then Merrow the edge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv5ta7adWH8

Yes, if you put 6 or 8 together in one frame.
You can either do them individually and then when it stops you move the frame to the next position. This I found to be the best way with a patch with many colours.
Or for one or two colour patches you digitise the whole lot and do all 8 patches at once. Make sure the needle doesnt touch the frame. As you are a novice I would do them one at a time until you are sure and confident it wont touch the frame. Can you trace the image before starting the job? If it touches the frame you could bugger the machine. Bugger is french for break by the way
