Re: Xbox - need help

Post by Paul »

Hi guys!
My little girl want xbox for christmas. :)
she has no idea about the gear that much yet. she is huge fan of mincraft and she love to play on ipad.
here is my question.
I know there is Xbox one and bit older xbox 360 on the market. I have no idea about video games so not sure what to get.
I am planing to buy some music-dancing games and minecraft and Sims, but i am not sure if is still ok to buy 360 version or maybe the newest xbox one. Price tag is quite attractive on the older one. so if any xbox gamers here then please help :)

There are early and later models of 360, I'd go for a later one as they have more usb ports, hdmi, wifi capabilities and get one with some storage space. Read about them here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360 and here http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/What-Are-all- ... 609/g.html

I only know some of this because our 8 year old lad would dearly love one for Christmas too but we have decided to again resist it for a while longer. He has a nexus 7 tablet and minecraft and various other app games but no unsupervised internet access, I'd rather he played with lego and other hands on toys or do outdoor activities. I'm sure there will come a time when we become compelled to get one but for now he can have the occasional go at a friends house. Money no object I'd get an Xbox one as it'll be better and longer lived but that is at a price. Kinect is something to read about in association with these too. The 360 will last you long enough and by the time you need to upgrade there will be plenty choice of more higher spec models.

Probably a good idea to go with the 360 slim as it has a bigger catalogue of games and they will be fairly cheap to get, having said that the xbox one just had backwards compatibility added to it (note it doesn't work with all of their 360 games though) so if you do get a xbox one eventually then you will already have games that can be played on it.

If I were you though I would start thinking about what decision you would have come to if she was in her teens and knows exactly what she's after, I'd start putting the pennies aside now.

With the internet access if you genuinely know who is on the other end and can personally monitor/check what is going on then okay, the risk is with unsupervised internet access where other unknowns can interact with a child. Kinect applies to some movement games and gives the kids a workout at the same time as entertaining them.

360 is pretty good Paul...I still use one reguarly. The only problem with it now, is that some of the newer games are only being released for the Xbox One, so I feel it's going to come to a stage fairly soon where new games will cease to exist for the 360. Saying that, there is a huge catalogue of games for the 360. Kinect is fairly decent on it, although I don't use it myself. I don't use Xbox Live either, but I think to play Minecraft online with her cousin, she'll need a Live account sub, which is an ongoing expense.
