How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
Hi Guys,
I am new here and I have 1 question....
I have Epson Stylus Photo 1500w completed with ink CISS, but I do not use it often.
Relentlessly I decided to swap the ink with sublimation dye and to start to do sublimation print.
I purchased another CISS and a set of sublimation dyes but before I do whatsoever I want to be sure that I will not do something wrong.
My idea is to swap the ink system with sublimation one and to print mainly with the sublimation dye but if I need a proper ink print to swap the CISS systems again.
On that way I want to use one and the same printer for both sublimation and proper print, swapping from time to time the CISS systems.
My question is: How to maintain the CISS systems that is not in use at the moment (to prevent a lick, to dry or whatsoever can happened with it in general) so that to be ready for the next time I need it.
....and most important : how to maintain the printer by itself.
this swapping shouldn't be so bad for the printer because from it's view point you change only the cartridges. And it has been made to get cartridges change quite often (those small cartridges need to be changed frequently if you print intensively with the original ones).
But being not so bad it still can be bad, especially if I we replace ink with dye few times a month.
What can I expect and how can i prevent potential damages?
also does the sublimation ink damage somehow the head?
Thanks in advance

Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
I do not use CISS but my first thought is every time you change inks you would need to flush the old ink out, clean the lines and then refill with the sublimation ink do some test prints to make sure it is a flowing properly. Would this not be a waste of ink for each time you change.
Many thanks

Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
you will need to flush (cleaning fluids ) EVERY TIME you change inks over....why not get yourself a cheap wee epson for every day prints / invoices etc...or you could just waste even more ink flushing it out with new inks
if keeping sub ink in the 1500, and not using it ( bad idea ) it would be advisable to do 1/2 prints of multi coloured strips on your a4 paper per week, to keep the juices flowing so to speak
but why on earth you want to do this beggers belief....ink wastage, time farting about cleaning out ciss from one ink to another, and money.
give this serious thought before you start doing this.
we got various printers here, brothers, epsons and ricohs ( yuk ) and one is the epson 1500w....but its used a lot every single day, and it has a ciss system, and works superb

Quinsfan and bigj2552 thanks for your answers.
but I think you misunderstood me.
I am not going to changing the ink only. I am going to replace one CISS with another CISS
I suppose there will not be any ink / dye left in the head (at least not much) and after one or two prints the head will be clean (full with the current ink/dye)
I have this printer to do high quality prints and photos but I need it for that purpose only from time to time.
I suppose I would use it as a sublimation printer much more.
I have A4 colour laser printer for day to day prints as I would never use inkjet printer for documents.
But the question was if I need to keep the CISS that is not in use at the moment in a plastic bag for example. I suppose I have to take out "the breathing" lids and to put back the hard ones in order to prevent lick. But I only suggest so.
I suppose the head is the one who prevent the licking of cartridges when they are in use.... but there is nothing to stop them when they are out.

Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
I've swapped inks in my 1500 a time or two, now using it for screen positives. A couple of colour prints will clear the ink but as mentioned above I'd avoid doing this multiple times. Buy another printer, consider the Ricoh 3110 as you don't need to use this every day.
Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
thanks Justin
I will check Ricoh 3110 and probably will purchase it....
Compairing wit Epson 1500w - does it make better or lower quality images....
The Epson should be profesiona photo printer - do you sujest to use Ricoh 3110 as a sublimation prinrter?

Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
Ricoh 3110 has only 4 colours - does it make good quality images and is there CISS for it
Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
dont get me started on this one :rolleyes:Ayra;108857 wrote:Ricoh 3110 has only 4 colours - does it make good quality images and is there CISS for it
not you...just the printers
save your money and buy another epson...trust me on this one !!!
get yourself one of the WF series epsons....i got 2 of them..lasted me over 2 yrs with them taking a pounding every single day with sub inks
as for the ricohs....well....
fact....give me 10 mins and i will show you lol...back in tick
Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
I am keen to take another Epson 1500 - I like it and I am happy with it.
but I worry that it is not a good idea to have two absolutely the same printers (they will be seen on the same way and they will get mixed even if I rename them, I think).
I thought another epson with embedded by the manufacturer CISS - "Eco thank" I think.., but I am worry that they have been made for office needs and their images are not so nice looking and hight quality. Their RIP processes may be not (for sure is not) as the same as in Epson Stilus photo 1500w and also they will come with ink.
With regard WF - do they print good photographies ?

Re: How to maintain CISS if we do not use it (Epson 1500W)
who says one cant have enough printers lol
epson 1500w ( just in ) for our main prints.
epson wf3520 for additional print work when busy
epson wf3520 for additional print work when busy
ricoh's 3110's x 3...for....temptation to say the bin but....
banding is a real issue with these dam things...
got these new about 2/3 weeks ago.....2 from one supplier, one from another
first supplier we got one from that would not even work, never mind banding....returned, and we bought another from another company
the two brothers 6510's, one in view at the bottom of table,(backup) the other off to the side are both for office / invoicing / flyers work.
if we can sort out the banding in the ricohs, all 3 of them, then we will retire the 2 epson wf3520's and keep for "just in case" moments, when one of the other ones goes tits up....
CISS sytems for the 1500w and one of the epson 3520s ( most used one )
always best to have back ups ...just in case
excuse the inks stains...more than a few mistakes by my girls filling the refillable's when we had them
