Re: Inks & Pixels help

Post by bfos »

Hi

Please excuse me if I sound really stupid. I have the Ricoh 3110 and sublijet r inks. I bought the inks second hand and they were about 50% full by the time the printer had setup. Having read up about these inks, it was my understanding that they lasted a long time. I have printed approx 25 sheets a4, not photos, just clipart style images and text. The Magneta ink has gone down by another 25% already.

So my question is, am I doing something wrong? I'm using photoshop. It's printing in 600dpi. When I open a template to work on, does it make a difference to how much ink is used depending on how many pixels per cm I set it up as. So say for instance I do an a4 template and 500 pixels per cm, will that use more ink than 72 pixels per inch.

Sorry to sound silly, but it's going to cost me a fortune in ink if im only getting a small number of prints. I'm sure I read somewhere that the sublijet r inks will do about a 1000 mugs which I assume is roughly 500 a4 sheets?

Thanks
Nikki

If you are looking at the front panel it will be inaccurate. Have a look at the maintenance tab in the driver which will give you a better level indication. My printer reads almost empty on the panel but is actually 30% full.

Thank you. I'll check tomorrow. I just wasn't sure if the number of pixels I choose for an image has a bearing on the amount of ink used.

the dpi doesn't effect it, but if your driver has economy, standard, and photo modes then each will use more ink than the previous.
Never switch your printer off.
