Free version is a cut-down version of the Pro version, which costs $19.99 a month subscription. You can get Photoshop CC2019 for less than that.

Thanks for the info, I don't think I'll buy it when all I need is every now and then is a face photo with a white background so that I can contour cut the face

Unfortunately, there's still no quick and easy way of removing busy backgrounds from images and making a perfect cutout. All methods require a degree of manipulation no matter what software or plugins you use. Maybe AI algorithms will soon automate the masking process.
