Why worth selling for little to none profit???

I mean you can find sellers all over ebay who work a lot for literally minimal profit. How much profit is in a 6£ mug or a 9£ T-shirt sale???pennys
I see they sell thousands a day/week, but there's a hell a lot of work in printing and packing all those stuffs almost for free.

I'd happily sell mugs for £6 every day if I was selling 1000's! Quite happy to do it for much less. Economy of scale.

It's the companies in Chain selling and shipping mugs printed for £0.99 that you have to wonder about. Although again, if you're selling 10,000 a day....

On a 6£ mug what's the profit?
1.2£ min. the mug
1£+ ebay fees and taxes
2.85£ 2nd class RM delivery
+ smashproof box/subli paper/ink/electricity/time to print+pack+post it

When I had 50 orders a day I work almost all day on it...now if I would sell them for 6£ the profit would be less than 50£...very exhausting to do it for weeks in a row and for not even minimal wage

Unfortunatley there are thousands of people working 'side hustles' from the kitchen table or spare bedroom, happy to earn £30 an evening while watching TV, probably tax free.
Alternatively there are plenty of struggling companies just trying to keep the machines and staff turning over some money, often unable or too stuborn to downsize.

Some businesses use ebay simply as a way to reach new customers. Once you have served them the first time in theory they deal direct.

We can't really put the blame on China though.

China receives a lot of stick for being a huge carbon emitter. Naughty China! Whilst the 'goody-two-shoes' UK and the rest of Europe pretend to be tackling carbon emissions and heading for Net Zero.

[I'll pause here while the applause for the wonderful, forward-thinking UK and European powers-that-be dies down! .................................................]



However, the only reason that China is emiiting so much carbon is because THEY ARE DOING ALL THE MANUFACTURING FOR THE UK AND EUROPE as well as for themselves! This puts them in the enviable position of being able to control market prices for nearly all manufactured goods worldwide and allows them to sell direct and undercut anything sold from here.

We've only ourselves to blame for ending up in this position, and it's not going to end soon.

You sell enough units, then all those prices will come down
50 mugs should only take a couple of hours, not all day

The biggest problem with China is the way the Universal Postal Union works. China is still considered a 'catagory 3' (potless) country so only has to pay pennies per aggregated KG to Royal Mail for onward delivery.

So we have a situation where someone in China is buying mugs direct from the factory - cutting out several layers of distributors and wholesalers - and getting very cheap international postage from the Chinese government. Even at £0.99 they are still making a profit, if volume is high enough.
