Some help for a punter who wants to buy some printed goods please!

Hi there,

I found your excellent forum and would like to ask a question of people in the industry.

My father is an architect and it's his 65th birthday soon. I would like to take some of his designs and put them on some plates or, if that fails an apron (more of which later).

I was inspired by these guys:

and wanted to do something similar (similar style too).

Ideally I wanted to get say 4-6 dining plates or one large platter (and have up to £80 as a budget).

I have spent several hours searching online and have found lots of people that do 8" plates - but these are really side plates, so the effect would be a bit lost. I've found one 10" supplier, but the photo seems to just be in the middle of the plate and looks a bit sad in the picture.

So, wondering if anyone here had any ideas - I've become a bit unstuck.

Also, there seems to be two processes that people use - either glazed or printed with a transfer - although this isn't that clear to me.

I may even want to commission more of these plates in the future (potentially for sale to the public), but that will depend on the reaction of the first ones!

If that is not possible, I was thinking of an apron - but a lot of the aprons online seem to have small photos on them which again, look a bit sad to me.

Appreciate any help or pointers anyone can offer.

the trouble with plates is the heat element needs to fit the plate.
so there are usually 2 standard sizes hence why the image isn't very big
because if your element is too big it won't fit in the slight dip of the plate.

the process we use on here is sublimation so it's neither glaze or transferred
sublimation actually impregnates the image into whatever it is printed onto.

i don't do plates but i do aprons and they come out lovely.
as for the size of image i can do up to A3 size.

alot of the time the image is so small due to what the customer sends you or some ppl can only do A4
