what does the average online store use per mth in bandwidth ?

just looking around just now at other hosts....some are as low as 10g per mth bandwidth allowance..
i really havnt a clue what usage the average sublimation store would use

in saying that - i thought a needed 10g of web space for my files lol...steve asked me if i was opening up 10 stores lol ...hey, i didnt know what size was needed :redface:

anyhoo....back to the question...what does the average online store use per mth in bandwidth

Well how long is a bit of string?...... it all depends on how busy your pages are......the more visitors the more bandwidth used. I have unlimited bandwidth on my package with 3ix and have been very happy with them now for well over 8 years. Prior to that i had nothing but problems with all the other hosting companys I used. They are american but have offices in london and a free phone number for help.

This is an argument I had with one of the major ecommerce hosting/ software suppliers. I didnt want to sign up to anything that wasnt fixed costs. In my view it is archaic to charge that anyway. Its a bit like when they used to charge you more for moblile phone calls in the big cities. Imagine if a TV program happens to show a web address very similar to yours and you get flooded with interest but no sales it could cost you a fortune. I have a shop with ekm (I am shortly closing due to developing an opencart shop whihc is performing better) they dont charge for bandwidth and of course if you have an opencart shop or similar make sure it is hosted on an unlimited basis.

I supply hosting packages and I can fix it at a certain bandwidth or unlimited and to be honest it doesnt cost any more.

"Bandwidth" is typically the speed of the connection (such as 10Mbps). "Data transfer" is the amount of data that goes to/from your website (such as 10GB/month).

You won't have "unlimited bandwidth" because there's no such thing as an infinite pipe. Your bandwidth will have a maximum speed, and this will be contended so it'll be slower than the speed advertised (they tend to advertise maximum speed, not actual speed, if they tell you at all).

You may have "unlimited/unmetered data transfer", but this will usually be with a more limited bandwidth than a metered connection.

I used to have my server running with an unmetered (unlimited) connection but, after a few months, it was clear that all the sites combined were not using as much as I'd anticipated. When I changed servers, I switched to a metered connection which gives me a set amount per month but at a greater speed (four times faster than the unmetered connection).

When working out how much data transfer you'll be needing, consider that you'll need extra in the first month (if you're transferring a large site from a previous host to the new one), and that may later settle down a little.
