Re: Refilling Refillable Ink Cartridges

Post by AdamB »

As I've now changed a couple of printers to refillable ink cartridges I thought I'd ask those that use them, their best method for refilling.

At the moment, I have syringes for each system that are labeled with the colour and when it comes to time for filling I take each one out (1 at a time) and refill - then replace and get the next one. It takes time and I need so I do this when I'm closed.

I throught about refilling them whilst they were still sat in the carrier but you can't see the ink level that way and you always get a few drops spilt down the line somewhere (or at least I do).

I can also remember a post (can't see it now) from last year (maybe later) regarding some bottles that had funny ends on them, where you put the ink in these bottles and use them to fill up when required.

What's everyone else (that uses refillable cartridges) do to refill?

hi Adam -

i use the refillable's below on my brother printers - easy fill with syringes while still in/on the printer, as they stick out from the front of it all the time.
you can easily see the levels while filling...
bought and never looked back again..( thanks paul )

still label my syringes colour wise as well

dunno what printer you got so .....

I gave up on those tiny thimble-size refillables in Epson printers. Every time I took one out to refill, it seemed to take ages to get a good print. Filling in-situ led to the issue of not knowing when they're full. Added to that, the auto-reset chips that cause the printer to charge all the cartridges every time one is empty just wasted too much expensive ink for my liking.

That's why, like bigj, I switched to Brother, re:

Not only can you use cartridges that are hugely bigger than on Epson (8-10 times the capacity, so you refill far less frequently) but you can easily refill in-situ. If you don't want to do this, there are also smaller cartridges (that are still ~3 times the capacity of Epson cartridges) that allow the cartridge door to close. Removing and refilling doesn't lead to the problem of no ink at the printhead because there's ink in the lines - a consequence of the printer having stationary cartridges.

I did start using those bottles that Ian M linked to, but with giant sized cartridges there's no real point because you're not refilling every two minutes. So now I just have syringes labelled up CMYK.

I think the brother set up is perfect - but for now I think the bottles that Ian mentioned will help .................. for now!

Thanks for the replies - appreciated.
