Re: Image too complex to press?

Post by Fordy »

Hi,

I've been struggling with this image for a few days now and after fixing an issue I was having with my printer (with help from Paul of course) I'm still struggling with it and am starting to wonder if it's just too complex to press to a mug. The logo actually looks quite basic but the blue glare effects on the bubbles are printing out brown. I don't think this is an issue with the ICC profile, it could just be that because the blue glare is so faint it's mixing in with the background. So I was just wondering what other peoples thoughts on this were, do you think it is possible to print and if so is it a printer issue or would you try to edit the image?

I added some pictures to help explain, the first is of the graphic I'm trying to print and the second is the problem I am having (quite hard to see but its the best I could do, also I know I forgot to mirror the image ) - Edit: it was also a bit big so I just added a link.

Difficult to tell with the image that is link as it is quite a poor quality image (no offence as mine would be exactly the same!!!)

But from what I can tell it looks like you are overcooking the mug.

What set up are you using (printer, mug press and type of mug)?

that blue bubble should not coma out brown. check your nozzles again and see if any colour are missing.

I am using the epson stylus s22 with a CISS system, the press is a mug pro plus from Novachrome and I got these mugs http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280948373210? ... 1423.l2649 (unfortunately I didn't realise there were dishwasher safe mugs until after I purchased these). I'm cooking the mugs at 400f for 4 minutes which I thought seemed like a long time but I've tried 2 minutes and the print outs were really faded. I don't think the issue is over cooking though because the graphic in the picture hasn't been pressed that's just how it printed out. Also my images print to the mug almost exactly as they look on the paper beforehand.

Hi Paul I'll give that a try, I did think I was over cooking them slightly I was just getting the best results at those settings, I'll see how that goes though.

Also the issue is not with the bubble itself it's the glare effect. It's quite hard to see, even on the first image, I didn't realise it was there until I printed it. Anyway I took another picture hopefully this one is a bit clearer.

Just one tiny point to remember.

The images will portray as RGB on your screen and print in CMYK format. They will be slightly "duller" when printed.

Ok, I pressed one up at 360f for 3 minutes and 400f for 4 minutes. I'm still getting the brown circles on both although they are harder to see on the 400f one.

Here are some picture I took - the mug on the left was cooked at 360f for 3 minutes the mug on the right was 400f for 4 minutes
