tips on getting artwork streight

most of my mugs are now printing well after changing my mugs. however on occasions even though i have cut the paper square all measured out . some times the bottom of the image does not run streight i sit the paper all the way down to the bottom of the mug and the mug is sat on glass is it possible some of the mugs are not truly flat at the bottom?
