Photoshop help?

God im getting my memberships money worth this weekend!

i have photoshop elements 6.0
for some strange reason when i open a blank a4 file then click place my images are in black and white! this has never happend before and it looks like ive changed some setting somewhere, anyone know what ive done wrong?
