When to pull the paper off

As it says.
I cocked up a stein this afternoon. I took the stein out of the press pulled the paper off but not smoothly and smudged it!
Now I have seen lots of variations, one of which was leaving the paper on and placing the mug in the bucket, only taking the paper off after it had cooled. At the time I thought how odd, however this afternoon I wondered if it was such a daft idea. Anybody else tried this, am I the only hamfisted numpty?
Throw your ways in the pot and see if there is a common method, and comment on the above idea.

You get the hand of whipping the paper off quickly without burning the ends of your fingers off You can also leave a small tab or double the tape over so you have something to pull. In my experience you can indeed leave the paper on whilst you dunk the item but it's a little messy pulling it off and the tape shifts easier whilst warm.

I always dunk with the paper on.

It's not in the water long enough to go soggy.

I do the same as Justin, the trick is pull the paper away from the stein, it might not have been that the paper might not have been on tightly enough and got smudge in the press, and not in the pulling of the paper

Are you sure it wasnt your eyes that were blurred and not the mug smudged? I wonder if prehaps you had been drinking too much of the contents fit for the Stein :rolleyes:

I found using a silicon wrap stopped the blurring on steins.

I to use a silicon wrap, Didn't know it stops blurring, I use it to stop ink transfer between mugs

I had 2 steins blur when I first tried them so I tried a silicon wrap as I thought it might be the ribs on the stein reducing the pressure on the paper and haven't had the problem since.
